Businessman Rudy Yakym, a onetime campaign official in Rep. Jackie Walorski’s runs for Congress, will replace the late congresswoman on the Nov. 8 election ballots to serve the remainder of her term and to be elected to a full term in his own right.

Yakym was chosen on the first ballot in a vote by Republican Party officials in the 2nd Congressional District Saturday, besting former Attorney General Curtis Hill, former state Rep. Christy Stutzman and current state Rep. Curt Nisly and a field of several others. Yakym had been endorsed by Walorski’s husband after her death in a traffic accident earlier this month. — This story will be updated.
